Cobbled together from mostly unissued performances out of the Duke vaults, we have here a nice
Parker LP anthology empahasizing his early-to-mid-'60s soul-inflected sound. He whoops it up like
Little Richard on the torrid "If You Can't Take It (You Sure Can't Make It)" (sensible, since
Richard wrote it), and gives a warm reading to "Today I Sing the Blues" (generally associated with female singers, primarily
Helen Humes amd
Aretha Franklin).
