In a discography bristling with hundreds of entries, Acrobat's 2008 budget Jazz Legends Charlie Parker collection could easily become lost in the shuffle. Ten titles chosen from various studio and live sessions paint a brief but vivid portrait of this brilliant improviser. Given the 70-minute capacity of the average CD and the bountiful quantity of great recordings that Charlie Parker left in his wake, a little over a half-hour's worth of Bird seems like a teeny tiny taste. This will do if there's absolutely no other Charlie Parker within reach. Otherwise, get something with at least an hour of vintage bop on the disc.
