Album Review

Ras designed Ras Portraits as a concise introduction to a particular artist's recordings for the label. Since the information behind Ras releases is always shady, it's difficult to discern the origin of tracks on Ras Portraits, but this disc is one of the better collections of Mad Professor material that Ras has released, and listeners curious about his albums for the label should start here. It should not, however, be seen as a definitive introduction to his music in general. Among the featured tracks on the Professor's Ras Portraits edition are "Dub Science," "Beyond the Realms of Dub," "Zion," "Holokoko Dub," "Sistren Version," "Buccaneer's Cove," "Hi-Jacked to Jamaica," "Fire on Mt. Sinai," "Black Skin, White Minds," "Anti-Racist Braodcast," and "Harder Than Babylon."
