Album Review

The two-disc Platinum 80s is one of those ultra-inclusive packages that has a little something for everyone. It's too scattershot and random to be recommended without hesitation, but it makes for a good impulse purchase -- especially if you're looking to own several of these songs to begin with. It's a mess: the people who come to it in order to obtain Genesis' "Land of Confusion" will likely skip right past the Human League, the Cars, Kim Wilde, and Prince. Just the same, a stretch of tracks that runs through Pink Floyd, Van Halen, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Duran Duran, Crowded House, and Belinda Carlisle isn't prone to a complete listen-through. Still, this is a random sampling of '80s chart hits that's as decent as any other.
