J.J. Voss

Raised on a small farm in rural Saskatchewan during tough economic times, Voss grew up identifying closely with the under-dog, out-law music with heroes like Johnny Cash, Steve Earle and John Mellencamp to name a few.

In 2008 Voss released his debut record entitled “Hillbilly Storybook” and he has been hard at it playing shows throughout Canada and the U.S.  Highlight shows include warming up for Johnny Reid, the Road Hammers along with 5 shows in Nashville, including a showcase spot opening for Raul, Malo (The Mavericks).

April of 2012 finds Voss finishing up work on his sophomore album in Nashville with music city icon Harry Stinson (Steve Earle, Martina McBride, Marty Stuart, Corb Lund) producing. “Show ‘em Who’s Voss” the debut single, “It’s A Pride Thing” will hit radio in Canada on April 2nd, with the album scheduled to drop June 1st. Plans are in the works to release to the Americana Market in the U.S. in October with France, Germany , Belgium and Australia to follow in 2013.

    I can think of NO ONE who deserves to win this title more than J.J. Voss!!

    J.J. is without-a-doubt one of the most gifted singer/songwriter/performers out there today. His music, and especially this title track "It's A Pride Thing", off of his NEW album "Show 'Em Who's Voss" is FANTASTIC...It's the REAL DEAL, and so is J.J.

    This song speaks to all of the blue collar workers out there who get up every day and do the grind. Both the hard working men, and the woman. The song isn't about all of the frivolous & superficial things that much of the country music (and music in general) is full of these days. I mean, seriously...hey, I love Toby Keith, but the day that "Red Solo Cup" reaches #1 on the charts...the more I shake my head, and wish that there were more songs out there like "It's A Pride Thing"...a song that says something, and has some SUBSTANCE!! Country music needs more down to earth, sincere, dedicated and passionate artist who sing and write about things that REALLY matter in todays world...Country music needs J.J. Voss!!!

    I'm very PROUD to call J.J. a great friend, and I wish him the very best of luck with this contest, with his new album, and with his career in music....he deserves every bit of success that comes his way...he's been paying his dues for a long time now, and absolutely deserves to be THE NEXT BIG THING!! ~ Good luck J.J....you know you've got my vote. ~

    VOTE QUIMBY---------> QUIMBY 4evah!!!! ;o)

    So proud of you, J.J.!!!
    I know you're not big on contests etc....you've been a FANTASTIC supporter and encourager to all of the other musicians entered here. That's a rare thing these days, especially in the music business. Often times people only think about themselves and their own success, doing whatever they can to get ahead, regardless of whos toes they step on, or by what ever means they know how....it totally astonishes me the ends that some people will go to in an attempt to WIN...especially in a contest like this where, to be quite honest...you are ALL winners!!! ~ J.J. you are such a GOOD SPORT, and cheer EVERYONE on. You don't have a problem extending a GOOD LUCK wish to others. ~ I'm very glad to see that you didn't feel the need to try to sway LIKERS, and get votes by attempting to use the charities you are involved with, and all the good works you do for others (which are many) however....THAT'S not your style, and I ADMIRE and RESPECT you so much for that!! ~ Your AMAZING TALENT/music/ songwriting etc, stand on their own merit...you're a CLASS ACT, and you deserve to be the NEXT BIG THING!!! Best of luck to all in the runny, but I am still casting my vote for QUIMBY!!! :o)

    I fell in love with this song the moment I heard it. It hits home on so many levels. "Doin what'cha gotta do" to have the best life you can for you and your family without losing sight of what's really important...basics of life. All my best.
