The most important part of a Pedorthic Assessment is Patient History. Things like Activity Level, previous medical conditions, past injuries, as well as the history of the pain or discomfort can greatly affect the choice and effectiveness of the orthotic. With a full patient history, the certified pedorthist can find the right fit.
The relationship between the different part of your foot is important in creating a professional orthotic. This includes the flexibility of all the major joints in the entire lower leg. Another vital part in fitting the proper orthotic, the non-weight bearing assessment gives the pedorthist a roadmap to work from.
By watching all aspects of a client's walk, the certified pedorthist continues to gather the necessary information to create the perfect orthotic. Each part of walking places different stresses on the foot, and a pedorthist understands how each movement works together.
Once all the information is gathered, Casting is done in 2 parts. Each part of the orthotic assessment is taken into consideration when creating the cast. From the patient history to both the non-weight bearing and gait assessments, all the information is compiled and analyzed before the orthotic is made in the accredited facility.
The final step in the process is the actual manufacturing of the Orthotic. Material is chosen based on recommendations from the certified pedorthist. Each cast is made in the foot's 'neutral position.' This Neutral position is exactly where the foot should be, and is the goal of the finished orthotic.
