Brad and Heather's Morning Blog...with Tia! She's back!
Tomorrow morning Jeff Dedekker's back in the doghouse to chat about Johnny Reid's future in country music, and Tia's back! Brad and Heather caught up with her, wired jaw and all!
Lindsay Lohan, what are you thinking?!?!? Seriously????
If anyone thought Lindsay Lohan was actually cleaning up her act, think again! She's suing E Trade Securities for $100 million dollars over their commercial featuring a 'milk-a-holic' named Lindsay...her lawyer states that she has the same single name recognition as Oprah or Madonna, so when you use the name you think of her......SERIOUSLY???
I think she might want to re-think this lawsuit, because implying that Lindsay Lohan drinks too much milk is probably the nicest thing anyone has said about her in the last 3 years!
If you haven't seen this commercial yet, here it is for your viewing pleasure!
Brad and Heather's Morning Video Blog - All tied up!

Brad Paisley falls off the stage....wanna see it???
Brad's American Saturday Night Tour made its final stop on the tour at the Charleston Coliseum in Charleston, SC Sunday night and on the final note of the encore finale ("Alcohol"), Brad fell on stage - he bounced back up, finished the show and thanked the audience and told them good-bye. Once he left the stage he was transported to the local hospital via ambulance to be checked out - all is well, only badly bruised. Brad was discharged from the hospital and is on his way home to Nashville.
Wow!!! He really took a header!!! Check it out...

Pairings Announced for 'Dancing with the Stars'
The pairings for the new season of Dancing With the Stars were revealed yesterday morning. Familiar faces like Karina Smirnoff, Kym Johnson and Lacey Schwimmer won't be back on the dance floor this year, making room for newcomer Damian Whitewood who will mark his debut with Pamela Anderson.
Kate Gosselin and her partner -- Tony Dovolani -- appeared on Good Morning America and talked about their chances of snagging the mirror ball. Both said that they're in it to win it, but Kate admitted that she's not a very good dancer -- yet.
- Gosselin will be training in her Pennsylvania basement so that she can be with her kids and plans on commuting for the live shows. She admitted, "I have eight kids, and I'm a mom and I have a very full schedule anyway. Obviously, the kids come first. It's going to be hard. I'm determined to do it."
The pairings are as follows:
- Kate Gosselin and Tony Dovolani
- Pamela Anderson and Damian Whitewood
- Buzz Aldrin and Ashley Costa
- Erin Andrews and hunky Maksim Chmerkovskiy
- Chad Ochocinco and Cheryl Burke
- Jake Pavelka and Chelsie Hightower
- Aiden Turner and Edyta Sliwinska

A Very Special Little Girl Helps Out
We had Victoria in the studio just before Christmas. She's 11 years old but already gives back in big ways. For a few years now, her dad Mike told us how Victoria saves money all year long and gives it to the Regina Humane Society.
Victoria stopped by for a very special reason- to surprise the Humane Society with the amount she had raised. It turns out that Victoria has behind her cause. Thanks to her dad's co-workers, Victoria's family, friends and school, she brought in a donation of almost $430.
Way to go Victoria!!!!!!
Regina's Top 5 Christmas Movies
Getting Regina's Top 5 Christmas Movies came about innocently enough. I was telling Brad how I couldn't wait to watch my favourite, The Sound of Music and he didn't understand how I could even consider it a movie for the holiday season as there is no reference to Christmas at all. It wasn't long after that and we were getting calls about your favourite.
The votes are in and here is Regina's Top 5 Christmas Movies!!!
1 - National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
2 - Home Alone
3 - Polar Express
4 - Miracle on 34th Street
5 - The Christmas Shoes
Thanks for voting and Merry Christmas from Brad and Heather
Holiday Appetizer Ideas from our food Expert C.J. Katz! (Video)
Every so often, we get a visit from our food expert C.J Katz in the doghouse, and in her latest stop she offers some delicious appetizer ideas just in time to feed the in-laws over the holidays!
How To....To Quick and Easy Appetizers
Getting ready for Christmas can be hectic. In an effort to save you time and give you more of it to spend with your family we had CJ Katz, our Big Dog food expert in the studio. CJ shared 2 quick and easy appetizers that you can make for get togethers. Scroll down to see the recipes.

Bacon-Wrapped Jalapeno Poppers
10 whole jalapeno peppers
cream cheese to fill each pepper
10 slices bacon
Cut jalapenos in half lengthwise and through the stem. Remove seeds (this is where the heat is. Keep seeds if you want suicidal jalapeno poppers). Fill each jalapeno half with cream cheese and then wrap 1/2 a slice of bacon around each pepper. Secure bacon with a toothpick. Place on greased or parchment paper lined cookie sheet. Bake 450 for 15 minutes. Can also be smoked on an outdoor smoker.
For a lower-fat version, omit bacon and bake as is.
Variation - add a little grated Monterey Cheese to the cream cheese before filling jalapenos!
Smoked Oysters and Feta-Pine Nut Canapés
1-250 g package regular cream cheese, softened
½ cup plain yogurt
3 tbsp toasted pine nuts
2 tbsp (packed) chopped fresh basil
1 garlic clove, minced
1-7 oz package feta cheese, crumbled
1/3 cup chopped drained oil-packed sun-dried tomatoes, finely chopped
1-2 tins smoked oysters
1 box whole wheat crackers
Place cream cheese, yogurt, pine nuts, basil and garlic in food processor. Blend until smooth.
Transfer to bowl. Add feta cheese and sun-dried tomatoes. Combine well. Transfer to serving bowl.
To serve, spread cream cheese mixture on cracker and top with one smoked oyster.
(Feta-Pine Nut Spread can be made up to 3 days ahead. Cover and refrigerate.)
Thanks to CJ Katz for coming in and sharing her recipes with us.
To see more, check out CJ's website here

Merry Swiftmas! Add this song to your Christmas playlist!
Taylor Swift is the subject of a new holiday song by an artist named Evan Taubenfeld called "Merry Swiftmas (Even Though I Celebrate Chanukah)." It's been making the rounds on YouTube, so this morning Heather and I tracked it down and gave it a listen....HILARIOUS!...and this kid can sing too!
Taylor herself heard the song on youtube and Twittered about it, linking to the site and saying "THIS made me smile."
Made us smile too...so here it is for your listening pleasure, enjoy!
Merry Swiftmas!
'The Sound of Music' is NOT a Christmas movie...
This is the debate Heather and I had this morning...'The Sound of Music' or TSOM as it will be known as for the rest of this blog cause' I'm already getting tired of typing it all out, is Heather's favourite Christmas movie....
This makes absolutely NO sense to me...don't get me wrong, TSOM is a guilty pleasure to be sure, I'd never admit it in the hockey dressing room after a game, but secretly I've always kinda had a crush on Julie Andrews....might have something to do with a questionable Blake Edwards movie she was in in the 70's, but that's another story for another time...
I defy anyone to find me anything even REMOTELY 'Christmas like' anywhere in the film....there's no snow, no presents, no Santa, no spirits whisking anyone away into the night in search of the true meaning, no reindeer, no angels, no elves.....there's not even single candy cane.....
Nope....just an Austrian family living in the time of Hitler's Germany, running from the Nazis' and brown shirts through the Swiss alps in search of freedom........pass the eggnog.
Why then, the major networks play this movie all through the Christmas television schedule is a mystery to me....give me Jimmy Stewart trying to save Baily's mortgage and loan , give me Santa in New York on 34th Street, give me Tim Allen in a panic putting on Ol' St. Nicks pants, even give me Billy Bob Thorton sparing with a midget....but why a bunch of kids falling out of a boat wearing drapes from their bedrooms???
If there is anything remotely Christmassy here, as one listener reminded me this morning, it's I suppose the singing...
To quote Will Ferrel in 'Elf'..."...the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear..."
Thank you Andrea for that 'Ferrelian' pearl of wisdom.....but following that logic, we should all gather around the Christmas hearth and watch 'Sweeny Todd'!
Merry Christmas!
Great Christmas Gift Idea
It's no secret that Christmas is my favourite time of the year. So much so, that I think it should be 365 days.
When my friend Michelle, gave me an early gift, I was ecstatic.
Michelle donated to a national organization involved in helping people in poverty stricken countries with a picture attached to my card that read, "Heather, for your gift, I've helped this woman in Africa."
Timing couldn't be more perfect because this morning we had Melanie and Jason on the show to talk about how you can do the same thing this Christmas and impact someone's life right here in Regina. A website has been set up to help the less fortunate, the big difference is that you actually get to choose from their wish list.
You can look through each person's story and their wishlist. Click here to see the list at homelesspartners.com
Keep this website in mind as you do your Christmas shopping. This would be a unique way to say Merry Christmas to someone you know and make someone's Christmas extra special in Regina.
Is your breath on the naughty or nice list?
It's that time of year when staff and Christmas functions are sprouting up almost every other day! A very social time of year, and the last thing you want to worry about when your two feet away from the boss' wife as she's asking you about your tie is......your breath!
I was reminded of this today when I came into work at 4 in the morning and suddenly realized that in my hurry, I forgot to brush my teeth!!!
Now before you judge me, admit it, we've all done it.....but thankfully I have an O.C.D radio host who always carries a spare bottle of mouthwash.....thank you Heather!
But even if you've brushed, how do you know your breath is good to go?......here's how!
Guys are idiots....seriously.
When it comes to Christmas shopping for her, guys are stupid.
I don't think I'm being too harsh here, seriously, we just don't get it, we really don't know what you want.
And it's not that we don't care, we do, it's just that we're wired upstairs a bit differently...short circuited if you will...
Ladies, you can't leave vague hints, you really have to spell it out...and don't leave it up to us to surprise you, cause the surprise you get likely won't be the surprise you were hoping for!
This morning our listeners chimed in....
The question everybody seems to be asking....
When you're surfin' the web, ever go to Ask.com?
I like to go there, mainly cause there's alot i don't know!...but recently the site came out with the top 10 questions they've been asked this past year...
What was the number one most asked question?
How much should I weigh?
Now I'm always fighting the good fight when it comes to battling the bulge, and if you're like me, you might like this.....
They're now sayin, forget fancy diets, if you want to lose weight, just eat lots of tomatoes!
Apparently, it's chalk full of stuff that suppress' the urge to snack...which is one of the biggest battles for me!
The magical ingredient is the pigment lycopene, that's the stuff that gives it it's red colour.....who knew?
I don't know about you, but this holiday season, i'm looking for alotta tomato based Christmas cookies.....mmmmmmmm............yum?...........
Soups on!...but the big question is, which soup are you???
Heather and I were talking about this this morning, Connie was listening and wanted me to put it up on our website, so here it is, the definitive 'Soup / Personality' menu....enjoy!
DECEMBER IS
Soup Month -- the soup a woman slurps does more than take the chill off a cold day. Psychologists have discovered an astonishing link between what you ladle into a bowl and what kind of man will really bring your passion to a boil. "A recent study shows that a woman's choice of soup reveals her ideal fantasy man," says psychiatric researcher Miriam Douglas of Cincinnati, OH.
So, soups on, which is yours???
• French onion -- You have a daring, adventurous personality, and you're always ready for a challenge. Chances are you're attracted to men with similar tastes, and you can best bond with them by sharing some electrifying experiences.
• Chicken noodle -- You're a warm-hearted, nurturing woman who places your sweetheart at the center of your world. Smart men are a real turn-on for you, and you show your love by thoroughly pampering your honey.
• Vegetable -- You're a responsible person who looks for a man who's a true partner, sharing in all decisions. And if your sweetie gives you the high degree of devotion you crave, you'll shower him with affection in return.
• Clam chowder -- You have a habit of falling in love with love, and your taste for novelty may keep you changing partners on a regular basis. Don't be so quick to rush from man to man because you could miss your soul mate in the shuffle.
• Cream of Tomato -- You yearn for the good life, and an ambitious man with a lot on the ball is right down your alley. You're willing to work right alongside him to achieve the financial security you must have to be happy.
• Baked potato -- You're a straight shooter who demands a matching honesty from your mate. Most importantly, if a man shares your strong sense of community and volunteerism, he's sure to win your heart.
...Heather's favourite is Vegetable by the way!...I'm a chowder man myself, but this list is strictly for the ladies!
Bon appetite!
The Joys of Tamiflu!
First off, wanna say a big thank you to the men and women of the Pasqua Hospital Emergency Room...they do good work!
Here's why, it all started last Tuesday, I was excited cause while usually I get to see my kids every other weekend, this week they get to spend a whole week with Daddy...but when I picked them up at Davidson (that's our meeting point, wanna take this opportunity to say hey to John, Bill and Sarah...it's like a single parent meeting place out there in the A&W parking lot!), my little guy Noah wasn't feeling well...
By the time we got home, he wasn't feeling any better, and then soon after that the fever hit...and then soon after that, he couldn't breathe!!!...seriously, it was as if his asthma that he grew out of kicked back in...
I was scared.
After hitting him with a combo of children's tylennol and then advil we're on our way to the Emergency Room at Pasqua...long story short, one Ty Beanie baby (they give them out at the reception!...love it) and prescription of Tamiflu later, we're on our way back home...you bet, he was diagnosed with H1N1...
He's doing much much better now, almost fully recovered, and in large part i think to 'Tamiflu'...now i've heard stories about this stuff...buddy of mine had his 12 year old daughter on it and said she started hallucinating!...it's extremely rare, but i guess it happens...
In my experience, no side effects what so ever and a very happy ending...and again, thanks to the staff at the Pasqua Hospital...but if you want to know more about the Tamiflu, check it out here...
Tamiflu
Being a parent can be a roller coaster ride for sure, but at the end of the day, wouldn't have it any other way.
Artist's Unleashed Video
She's been described by Nashville's Music Row Magazine as one of the best songwriters in the business!...having penned tunes for Jessica Simpson, Sara Evans and Johnny Reid, to name a few...but lately she's taken to the spotlight herself, and earlier this week, she stopped by and brought her guitar!
The result was 'Artists Unleashed', so now we get to share the experience with YOU! Enjoy!
GOOOO RIDERS
I came across this video the other day and with "mom's" permission, Brad and I shared it with our Big Dog listeners. So what happens when you live with someone who cheers for a rival sports team and is 2 years old....and cheers for the Stamps? Well that's when mom HAS to step in!!!

Best Clam Chower EVER!....that's right....chooooowwwwwdaaaaar..(insert Boston accent here)
So last night my Dad comes into town from Carnduff, and he's all excited about the lunch he had the other day.....let me backtrack a bit here....my Dad was born and raised in the maritimes, and he's all about seafood, specifically, Clam Chowder......the man LOVES his clam chowder....and being from the maritimes, you're hard pressed to find him anything out west that comes even close.....until NOW!
The story goes, a farmer from down around Carievale, near Carnduff, had to retire due to health issues, sold the farm and started his own little coffee shop....Don's his name....and while he likes to putter around in the kitchen, he's not adverse to a helping hand, so he has a lady friend of his make the odd dish that he can serve during his lunch rush....
One day, my Dad happens thru town and stops into Don's Cafe for a bite...and that day Don's lady friend happen to make a homemade batch of her clam chowder.......well.......my Dad never tasted anything so heavenly in his LIFE!
He made Don promise to keep serving up that chowder as a regular feature......so.....if my Dad, a man who knows his clam chowder, swears it's the best he's ever had, you can bet it's damn good and probably worth the drive!
Don's Country Cafe in Careivale.......my mouth is watering already......

The CMA's: Historical AND Histarical!!!
What a night!
Love it or hate it, it was history in the making!
Taylor Swift went in with four nominations, and came out with four trophies, including Entertainer of the Year!!!
That makes her the youngest recipient in the history of the CMA's at the age of 19 to win the coveted award, and the only solo female to do so!!!
Other big winners last night included Lady Antebellum, who took home Single of the Year and Vocal Group of the Year, ending Rascal Flatts' six-year reign in that category.
Brad Paisley won his third consecutive Male Vocalist award, as well as Musical Event with Keith Urban for "Start A Band."
And Sugarland took home what would have been Brooks & Dunn's 17th and final win for Vocal Duo of the Year, much to their surprise.
The complete CMA winner's list is as follows:
SINGLE: "I Run To You" by Lady Antebellum
SONG: "In Color" written by Jamey Johnson, James Otto, Lee Thomas Miller
VOCAL GROUP: Lady Antebellum
NEW ARTIST: Darius Rucker
ALBUM: Fearless Taylor Swift
VOCAL DUO: Sugarland
MALE VOCALIST: Brad Paisley
MUSICAL EVENT: "Start A Band" by Brad Paisley & Keith Urban
VIDEO: "Love Story" Taylor Swift
MUSICIAN: Mac McAnally
FEMALE: Taylor Swift
ENTERTAINER: Taylor Swift
...but the icing on the cake for me was the incredible job that Brad and Carrie did hosting....they really work well together....and FUNNY!!!....if you missed it, here's some highlights...enjoy!
Wear Your Poppy
We had the opportunity to have Warrant Officer Al Pociuk in the studio just before Remembrance Day. It was amazing to see someone who has gone to Bosnia numerous times and Afghanastan just recently, stay so humble about his job.
It was also a strong reminder for me, while these men and women are fighting, we have a part to play. it's important we show our support. Whether it's going to the Remembrance Day Services on November 11, wearing the poppy or just walking up to someone in uniform to tell them how much you respect what they do.
This week, Brad and I wanted to have guests on that were involved in one way or another with Remembrance Day. A local songwriter and author came by Big Dog to talk about her latest children's book. It's based on her dad's life and how he met his dad for the first time when he was 5 years old, when he came back from WWII.
Click here to see and hear Marny Duncan-Cary.
Lest we forget...
Yesterday, Heather and I sent out a request, asking our listeners for stories relating to the Remembrance Day celebrations tomorrow...stories from Veterens, families of Veterens, or stories from those currently serving this great nation....and the response was overwhelming....humbling...
Many were from families who have sons and daughters currently overseas, others from sons and daughters of Mothers and Fathers who bravely served from years past...
It's impossible to share them all, but there is one video that was sent to us from 'Paul'...recently retired, served 24 years in the RCAF, with Peace Keeping tours taking him to places like Egypt, Syria and Israel.
The attached You Tube video is of Ginny McIlmoyle a Cobourg Ont., and the song is called "Highway of Heros"...it is a great song and video shot in Belleville at the Armories with footage from repatriations at Trenton.
Please pass this video along to as many people as you can...it's a very simple way to honor those brave men and women who lay their lives on the line everyday so that we may live in the best country on the planet.
Did ya see Taylor Swift on SNL this weekend?...here it is if you missed it!
Not since Dolly Parton circa 1970's has SNL had a female host/musical guest...until this past weekend!
Taylor Swift showed everyone that her talents go far beyond her guitar and microphone when she both
hosted and performed...and funny? I lost count in how many skits they used her in! But my
favourite skit was her first, when she opened the show, as every host does, with a monologue...but in
true Taylor fashion, she didn't just 'do' a monologue....she SANG it!....and here it is.....

How do you rate on Halloween spending???
Ok, I LOVE Halloween, but I'll admit, I really miss going door to door! To me, that was always the BEST part of the holiday, collecting the BIG STASH!....and then finding a really good hiding place for it so my brothers and sisters would ransack it!
So now that I'm too old to do it, (..and believe me I've tried!...) I do the next best thing...I drop a dime on only the best halloween candy...and lots of it...too much really...insuring that I'll have lots left over when the doorbell stops ringing...
I figure I'll spend close to $100 bucks on the sweet stuff!!!...and I guess thats above average...
According to a recent BIGreseach survey, the average person will spend $66.54 on the holiday. Here's the breakdwon for the average person:
$24.17 on costumes
$20.39 on candy
$18.25 on decorations
$3.73 on greeting cards
Here's what else the survey found:
64.5% plan to celebrate or participate in Halloween
73.7% hand out candy
50.3% will decorate their home and/or yard
44.6% will carve a pumpkin
35.3% will dress in costume
33.6% will take children trick-or-treating
31.3% will throw or attend a party
18.1% will visit a haunted house
Yup....I LOVE Halloween.....and so do my friends at VISA!
Happy Halloween!

Horror flicks? BRING IT!

What to do with the Thanksgiving Leftovers
It's Thanksgiving Monday and if you're making that big turkey meal , it's ineviteable you'll have LEFTOVERS. Brad and I thought it would be a great idea to bring in an expert to talk about recipe's for leftovers instead having to eat turkey sandwiches for a week.
While getting ready to cook her Thanksgiving meal, cooking expert C.J. Katz from Savour Life Magazine joined us in the Doghouse with her tips.
Fajitas - choose your favorite toppings along with some gently heated through pieces of turkey meat - white or dark - it's your choice, and voila,~a little taste of Mexico!
~
For lunch or a light supper, try some cooked turkey in a wrap or a panini. Try it with a~dollop of cranberry sauce, a bit of stuffing and some arugula leaves.
~
Quiche - Another light supper idea! Sauté some onion and a bit of broccoli (if you have leftovers, don't bother sauteing it). In a medium bowl, beat together 3-4 eggs. Toss in the broccoli and turkey along with a good handful of cheese (blue, old or Swiss are great). Pour into a partially baked pie shell and bake about 45 minutes at 375F. Serve with a side salad.
P.S. If you're gluten intolerant, omit the crust and bake in a greased pie plate and presto, you've got a frittata.
~
And here are few other ideas to help you get through that turkey.
add some turkey to your next salad
freeze chopped or torn turkey in 1-2 cup bags. Freeze for use in casseroles.
or.... make up a few casseroles to pull out of the freezer on days when you know you'll be too stressed to make supper.
throw a handful of turkey during the last 5 minutes of preparing a great stir-fry.
And of course, save the turkey carcass to make a terrific soup.
Turkey and Barley Salad~
A healthy way to use up leftover turkey without packing on the pounds!
2-3 cups leftover turkey, torn into bite-size pieces
1 cup canned black beans, rinsed and drained
1 cup frozen or fresh corn niblets
1 red pepper, diced
1 cup pearl barley
1 cup dried cranberries
2 green onions, thinly sliced on the diagonal
3 tbsp finely chopped fresh basil
3 tbsp finely chopped fresh cilantro
1/2 cup toasted slivered almonds or pine nuts, toastedDressing
3 tbsp red wine vinegar
1 tsp maple syrup
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tsp Dijon mustard
5 tbsp olive oil
salt and pepper, to taste
In a medium saucepan, bring 2 cups of lightly salted water to a boil. Add barley and cook until tender. Set aside to cool.
In a large bowl, assemble all salad ingredients, except dressing.
In a separate small bowl, whisk together red wine vinegar, maple syrup, minced garlic and mustard. Slowly whisk in olive oil. Season with salt and pepper. Pour over salad and toss to coat.

When Pink Is Just A Colour (with Video!)
I am very blessed to have the job I have. It allows me to meet many people from different walks of life. Every so often there's the one person who stands out, whether it's something they've done or with something they've said.
We had the priviledge of talking with Kal Hourd when he performed at Craven this year so when we heard he was in Regina, he stopped by the studio.
I'd heard a lot about a song he wrote called "When Pink is Just A Colour Again" but didn't hear it until he performed it in The Doghouse.
This song is so powerful, if you missed it here'sour interview with Kal and his liveacoustic performance.
Kal was asked to perform When Pink Is Just a Colour at the CIBC Run for the Cure on Sunday, October 4th.
His new cd is called "Haven't Even Met Yet" and "Pink" is also on the cd.
...and here's the video, 'Artists Unleashed'!

Ok, this one's GOT to find a home....his name is Winston, and he's everything you're looking for in a cute little companion....fun, curious, but cuddly....and a purr that can be heard halfway across town!

Conan O'Brian falls down goes boom!
Did you see Conan O'Brian hit his head the other night?
In a tapped stunt with Desperate Housewives star Terri Hatcher last Friday, Conan slipped and hit his head pretty hard...hard enough that they took him to the hospital and aired a re-run...
This past Monday night, he was back hosting the Tonight Show, and relived the experience, so in case you missed it, here it is...
I just think it's kind of important to watch, cause' it really drives home how important it is to wear a helment when appropriate...especially if THIS is what happens when simply falling down! (he sounds a little drunk when he first gets up...kinda creepy!)

You Have a Right To Know
Yesterday I was on location at the U of R talking about knowing your rights when it comes to privacy.
Members from the Information and Privacy Commissioner's Officer were there to spread the word. The message was simple...if you have questions about bodies of governement, ask away. If you want to know what the governement has listed about you, you have a right to know as well.

Sharing the Warmth Video!
Can you believe that people actually let us into their homes?!?
Well, if it means saving money, then yes!
Yesterday, Heather, Tyler and I went out with SaskEnergy and an army of nurses and blanketed the city with clean furnace filters, water wizards and free stuff, all in the name of conserving energy and 'Sharing the Warmth' with SaskEnergy!
Thank you Regina!
Basically, you buy a cup of 'Joe' for....well...ANY amount is accepted...and it all goes to help the Alzheimers Society of Saskatchewan.
Thank-you to everyone who helped make it such a huge success! A 70% increase from last year!!!
Thank-you Regina!
How to see 'Jennifer's Body' tonight with Megan Fox and still look cultured.
I LOVE movies....bit of a movie buff really...and the movies I gravitate towards are usually the ones that are less 'popcorn flicks' and more the ones that have substance and depth.....
....that being said.....I'm still a guy...
So when I first saw teaser's for 'Jennifer's Body' leaked early last year, I couldn't wait to see more! It stars the young lady who is known as '...the most beautiful woman in the world...' Megan Fox!
Like every other guy, the second I saw her leaning over the hood of Shia LaBeouf's yellow camero in 'Transformers' I was hooked!
Now, I'm not usually one to go to slasher flicks...won't even watch them when they come out on the movie channel.....but come on!.....MEGAN FOX!!!!!!!!
So guys, if you're like me, and you want to see this movie but not at the expense of wearing shades and a big floppy hat, ducking down and hiding your face from passers by while ordering your popcorn, here's what you do...
Proudly state that the script writer for 'Jennifer's Body' is none other than Diablo Cody! She's the genius behind 'Juno'...oh yes....the one that won the oscar for 'Best Screenplay', and the BAFTA (or British Oscar) for 'Best Screenplay'...as well as the 'Critics Choice' award, and Golden Globe, ....all in all, 49 wins and 38 nominations.....Oscar award winning screen writer Diablo Cody!!!...
They say that the writing in this movie is exceptional....it's much, much more than your garden variety slasher flick............at least, that's why I'm going! ;P
See ya at the movies!
Plan your coffee break with us today!
Today is the annual Alzheimer's coffee break downtown at the F.W Hill Mall, from 8am till 2pm.
Heather and I were talking with Mary Arpin the other day, she's one of the many organizers, and it's
interesting to note that the more money we raise, the more we learn about this still mysterious disease,
arguably one of the most cruel diseases out there today.
I have my own personal experience with it, a family memeber years ago who was afflicted, and it's an
experience I don't wish on anyone.
So please join us for a coffee today, probably one of the most meaningful cups of joe you'll have this
year.
Heather and I will be down there between 11am and 1pm, so make sure to say hey, we'd love to see
ya!
The Great Canadian Head Shave!!!
Johnny Reid says 'Thank-you' at the CCMA's
They sure know how to put on a great show on the West Coast!
Leading the nominees last night at the CCMA's in Vancouver, Johnny Reid danced away with 5 awards, collecting hardware for:
- Album of the Year (Dance with Me)
- Best Video
- Fan's Choice
- Male Artist of the Year
and Songwriter of the Year with Brent Maher for the song 'A Woman Like You'
In true Johnny Reid fashion, he dedicated his first award to the women in his life...his mother, grandmother and his wife who's due next January.
Crystal Shawanda, who we showcased last year at 'The Pump Roadhouse', took home Female artist of the Year.
The boys from 'Doc Walker' who paid the Dog's Breakfast a visit last week, won 'Best Group'
Corb Lund and his 'Hurtin Albertans' took the 'Root artist or Group of the Year' award,
The boy from B.C, Dean Brody got 'Single of the Year' for 'Brothers'
and Former Canadian Idolist Tara Oram, the little gal from 'The Rock' with the big voice, (and who entertained us recently at the Pump when the CMT tour rolled thru town) won the 'Rising Star' award...and through her tears, thanked her family, her manager, her hamster, rabbit and cat!!!
...I love a girl with priorities! ;)
Congrats to all!
Don't Mess With Taylor
I'm watching the CCMA's last night and my phone goes off. It's my friend Christa asking me if I've seen what just happened on the MTV awards. Turns out Taylor Swift wins an award and as she accepts it....Kanye West interrupts her acceptance speech.
It was like your worst dream coming to life. Taylor was speechless then walked off the stage, devastated.
Since it happened, the support surround Taylor Swift coming from all genres of music is incredible. If you missed it...here's what happened.

Slow down in the School Zones!!!
Well, it's that time of year when we're reminded to slow down when driving thru school zones...Officer Schumay stopped by the Dog's Breakfast the other day to remind us that the minimum fine for speeding in a school zone is $200!!!!
MINIMUM!!!!!
Having never actually SEEN a speed gun before, I asked for a demonstration..,you're supposed to go no faster than 40 clicks...I don't think Heather's got any worries!!!!! ;)
'Drop Your Pants' a HUGE success!
Big Dog's Pet of the Week!
I Text and Drive
No I'm not proud of it but as soon as I became the owner of a blackberry, it just seemed so easy. Now, picking up the phone while I'm driving seems like the norm. I know just how dangerous it can be after one of my friends was hit from behind when she was at a red light. As she looked in her rear view mirror she saw a car coming a little too fast, the driver's head was down. Fortunately for both of them the only damage was to the cars. As the driver got out, she said, "I am so sorry, I just looked down for a second to send a text." That story hit me and hopefully, if you have a tendancy to pick up the phone when driving you'll think twice when you see this video.
The video may show teens texting and driving but I know a lot of adults that do it.

Why it's soooooo important to stay in school!
Last night (Monday) wasn't good to former Everybody Loves Raymond star Patricia Heaton. First, a former assistant filed a lawsuit against her for unpaid wages, then she made a fool of herself on national television. Seriously, you have to see this!
The lawsuit was filed by former Heaton personal assistant Jennifer Lee, who claims she was fired because her child was interfering with her work and then stiffed her on $7425 in back wages. And then ABC aired her appearance on Millionaire! Heaton had an unlimited amount of time to use simple arithmetic to figure out the $50,000 dollar question for charity, not to mention the standard issue "lifelines" the show's famous for. What followed is both hilarious and cringeworthy.
If only she hadn't skipped those math classes in second period....stay in school kids!!!!!
See Toby Keith's latest video here first!!!
TOBY KEITH's new video looks a little like one of those Jib Jab political spoofs. The animated video for American Ride makes its TV debut today (Friday) on CMT...but you can catch it here first on the Big Dog blog!
Would You Let Your Kids Play With This?
It's a controversial new doll that lets little girls pretend breast feed. Toymakers out of Spain have made a doll that comes with a special halter top its young "mothers" wear as they pretend to breast-feed their "babies.
The doll - called Bebe Gloton, which translates as "gluttonous baby" - makes sucking noises as it "feeds."
Like many other dolls, Bebe Gloton can cry, signaling she wants more milk.
Some doctors wonder if Bebe Gloton might speed up maternal urges in the little girls who play it.
What do you think......just click below.

The last works of Heath Ledger on YouTube today...
The tragic death of Heath Ledger, perhaps made even more so as it was on the heels of his award winning performance as 'The Joker' in 'The Dark Knight' (a movie I never get tired of watching)...still has many wondering what could have been...
Well, today, we get to see a taste of what could have been as the first trailer of 'The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus' Heath's last film, hits the web.
Directed by Terry Gilliam of Monty Python fame, this project got alot of attention last year, not only because it was Heath's last film, shot right after his unforgettable performance as 'The Joker', but also because he never got to finish it...they were only half way thru shooting when tragedy struck.
As you'll see in this newly released trailer, Johnny Depp, Colin Ferrel and Jude Law all stepped in and played incarnations of Heath's character...donating their salaries to Heath's family.
Terry Gilliam said earlier this year, "Heath was enjoying himself so much, and he was ad-libbing a lot, which I don't normally allow ... but Heath was just brilliant at it, and he got everybody else going. Everybody was just energized by Heath. He was extraordinary. He was almost exhausting because he had so much energy."
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus is due to be released this fall, and I for one can't wait....
Brooks and Dunn are done!
I thought it was a joke...
When I heard the news yesterday about Brooks and Dunn breaking up, I thought it was a prank, but when I went to their website, I saw this:
"After 20 years of making music and riding this trail together, we have agreed as a duo that it's time call it a day. This ride has been everything and more than we could ever have dreamed .... We owe it all to you, the fans. If you hear rumors, don't believe them, it's just time."
I can't believe it...after almost 20 years of great music, 10 albums with 20 number ones and over 40 pieces of ACM and Grammy hardware...but I think the true testament to their success was, is, their ability to connect with their fans, just like this one we heard from this morning on the 'Dogs' Breakfast':
Listen.
...and for those of you who have tickets to their scheduled concert at the Brandt this October, well, your tickets just got ALOT more valuable!...it's probably the last time you'll ever see them together on stage!
So long guys, we'll miss ya!
Bad Boys and Women Who Love Them
I knew that title would get your attention.
So I came across a picture of Billy Currington with his new black eye. Always loved him, thought he was a cutie but there was something about the black eye that took my "admiration" up a notch.
It's the age old question - why do women love bad boys?
After this morning's show, it seems the opinions are split.
Either we want to change them or we see bad boys as being more spontaneous than the "good guy."
What do you think?
And for your viewing pleasure....Billy Currington.
The three stooges, kitten style!
Foot for thought...
Ok, I'm golfing yesterday with a guy I just met, introductions are made, and the shot-gun start begins...and for five holes I'm calling this guy 'Neil'.....his name's 'Ryan'......
Seriously!...I mean, Neil doesn't even SOUND like Ryan...where did I get 'Neil' from???....AND WHY DOESN'T HE CORRECT ME????
It's not his fault...I'm an idiot...I'm THE WORST when it comes to remembering names, so Heather and I are asking for handy tips to help me out this morning on the show...
One person suggested just being honest...another said trace the name of the person on their forehead when you first meet them....not literally, with your imagaination!
Then we had a listener come down to the doghouse and show us her tatoos...she's tattooed the name and footprint of her babies ON HER FEET!!!...what happens if she has more than three or four kids remains to be seen, but THAT'S THE ULTIMATE FOOT - NOTE!!!!!!
Check it out.
Rising above the rubble.
The tragic events of the Big Valley Jamboree Music festival in Camrose, Alta seems to be on everyone's minds this morning.
From literally out of nowhere, a massive plow wind takes out the stage and takes the life of single mother Donna Moore of Lloydminster. Without warning. There was nothing to be done.
Eyewitness accounts of the mayhem that insued came from all sources...television, facebook, twitter, emails, texts, even hastily posted video's on YouTube brought this tragedy to us all.
Click here to watch YouTube video.
Country Star Billy Currington was performing his last number on stage when it happened...he and his bass player Alex Stephens were caught underneath the rubble, and while Alex remains in a Nashville hospital today mending a severed artery and nerves in his left arm, Billy escaped with a mild concussion and a black eye that you can see in this 'twit pic' he posted the other day.
But it's from these tragic events that we witness the rally cry of the men and women of country, we witness it's strength rise above the rubble and reach out to those in need.
Kevin Costner and his manager, trapped under the rubble, managed to crawl out from under with only a few scrapes and bruises, and have vowed to come back for a benefit concert for Donna's family should one be planned.
Johnny Reid who was performing on the Grandstand at the Queen city Ex that very night has pledged $10,000 to Donna's surviving family.
This is what country's all about. This is what we do. This is who we are.
And it's experience's like this one that reminds us how all too fleeting life can be. I encourage you to check out today's article in the Leader Post by Kevin Blevins. He was there with his wife Kim, and gives us a first hand account, and a reason to pause.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Donna Moore's family.

The Canadian Open: the PGA's second class citizen!
The Canadian Open should wrap up today, weather permitting. Once considered the "Fifth Major", the Canadian Open has really fallen on hard times over the years. It wasn't that long ago when it was an important tournament and the best came out to play for our national championship. It was a given that you'd see Nicholas, Trevino, Watson and every other big name golfer walking the Glen Abbey course in southern Ontario with throngs of golf fans following from hole to hole.
Then, somewhere along the way, the Canadian Open started getting really bad dates from the PGA.
Always following one of the other major's, it now falls in one of the week's when the best golfers want a rest. Now it has the feel of a second rate tournament with a second rate line-up. There would be a few big names who'd show up to try and grab the title but the breadth of the field is a little shallow, despite some trying to put a good spin on it. We still get the Canadian golfers on the tour to come out but it's just not the same. To the point where I'd like to see some action taken.
I think that Canada needs to stand up to the PGA and demand that this tournament be given more respect and a proper date that would allow the best golfers to compete. When it comes to golf tournaments there are far too many and the Canadian Open has trouble competing with purse size and it can't bring in the TV ratings like some of the others. However the Canadian Open should be given more respect for it's heritage. Golf can be about more than money. Over the weekend it was the 100th time golfers have come to Canada for one week to compete for this country's title.
Can you force the best to come here and play? Well, no, the PGA can't even do that. However we could be given a better date and that would allow a better opportunity to pull in the best. The United States has like 40 PGA tournaments every year and Canada has one. Surely that deserves some extra special attention.
A plan needs to be put in place to restore this golf tournament to it's former glory. I would love to see the tournament moved around the country to show off some of the incredible geography that we hold so dear, to the rest of the world. Glen Abbey is a fine golf course but it's been home to the tournament too many times to count. P.E.I. has glorious golf courses built on the ocean's edge. We have golf courses that traverse the Rocky Mountains. Why not play the Canadian Open in Banff and show the world the beautiful vistas that make this country so awesome. There are stunning golf courses right here in Saskatchewan, one of my favourites is Elkridge outside of Waskisieu, cut right into the boreal forest, I mean really, take your pick!
Instead the RCGA keeps going back to Glen Abbey. Varied course selection, a better date and a bigger purse are the three things that will restore the Canadian Open to it's proper place as a "national championship".
The Royal Canadian Golf Association is not doing it's job. It has one big tournament to run and it's letting it slide. Golf is big business and the Canadian organizers need to do a better job if they're going to compete with the myriad of tournaments and special events already on the schedule. The Canadian Open deserves more respect and it's about time Canadians demanded it!

TIPS FOR WATCHING MICHAEL JACKSON MEMORIAL
Media watchers are concerned about the number of fans who will try to watch Tuesday's Michael Jackson memorial telecast via the Web. The day could cause problems for everyone on the Internet because of the high volume of traffic. San Jose, California's Examiner.com offers the following tips:
- Defer important online transactions to Wednesday to best avoid Internet congestion problems related to Tuesday's event.
- Look at the domain name before clicking on a link. Stick with established sources, be it CNN, TMZ or Examiner, to best avoid spyware and bait-and-switch website techniques.
- Prepare for popular websites hosting funeral video and live feeds to be inaccessible temporarily. YouTube videos, for instance, may be slow to load. Try again rather than clicking on random sites haphazardly.
- Get the facts in advance. The Michael Jackson funeral is to be held at the Staples Center with a live televised feed expected at the Nokia Theater. Some websites may have domain names with similar spellings or play off the Michael Jackson name. Look for "Official" websites via a search engine.
BABIES ON ROLLERBLADES!!! HILARIOUS!!!

Don't You Hate It
I hate when I'm watching a movie and theeeeeen it happens.....you know.....IT HAPPENS. You have to decide between missing a great part of a movie or going to the bathroom. Well the bathroom tends to win with me but there's always that tug of war....when's a good time to leave? Now? Later?
You don't have to worry anymore....
Check this out...a website that tells you what parts of movies you can afford to miss and for how long....appropriately titled "runpee.com." Click here.

A Dose of Reality
The week of Relay for Life was a tough one for me. As I got ready to emcee part of Relay for Life with Brad on Friday I also received bad news leading up to it.
My cousin Jordan, who had been battling leukemia for 15 months and was found to be in remission in April died Monday night at the childrens' hospital in winnipeg. The leukemia had moved to his central nervous system.
Jordan had just graduated from highschool. Had his first car and his first girlfriend. Through his fight he's the guy you never heard complain. NEVER.
He carried a wicked sense of humour, even when he was hooked up to tubes in the hospital room. He had a bet going on with the nurses during the Stanley Cup....up for grabs...a free slurpee.
Jordan's last visit to the hospital was supposed to be a quick trip. The doctor planned to run a few tests to make sure the lukemia was officially gone, instead Jordan was admitted. What was supposed to be an overnight stay turned into a few weeks before Jordan eventually lost his battle...a 17 year old with more wisdom and strength than most men. He never wavered from his positive thinking. One of the comments I can clearly remember him saying...."whatever happens either way I'm a winner. I walk away from this or I go to Heaven." Strong words coming from a teenager.
After the funeral, I had a press release on my desk...saying how much was raised for Relay for Life.
On behalf of Jordan...thank you. Over $437 thousand dollars was raised...
Goodbye Michael.
Michael Jackson died on June 25, 2009, aged 50. The specific cause of death is yet to be determined. Before his death, Jackson had announced a 50 date sell-out 'This is it' comeback tour, in London England. Sadly, his last words on stage were eerily prophetic...
Listen.
It was a shock to most of us, but to those who were close to him, it was expected.
He was the living definition of the candle burning at both ends, his life was a life of extremes...extreme work ethic, extreme success, extreme scandal, extremely loved.
I watched as Kenny Rogers, a dear friend of Michael, broke up on CNN over the news...
Listen.
A true testament to Michael...he influenced us all...hey, I still have the thin red leather tie, silver jacket and mirrored sunglasses in my closet from 1982!
He was the seventh of nine children in the Jackson family, made his professional music debut at the age of 11 and never looked back...his accomplishments were truly impressive...
- He was one of the few artists to have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of fame twice, he's had multiple Guiness World Records, including one for "Most Successful Entertainer of All Time"
-13 Grammy's
13 number one singles in his solo career-more than any other male artist in the Hot 100 music format.
- He's sold 750 million records worldwide.
- Jackson's highly publicized personal life, coupled with his successful career made him a part of a part of pop culture for almost four decades.
-His 'Thriller' album was the highest grossing album of all time.
...and we can thank Michael for his vision...in the early 80's, music videos were little more than promotional tools used to showcase new music, until Michael did 'Thriller', 'Beat it' and 'Billie Jean', transporting the genre into less of a vehilce and more of an art form.
He single handidly saved the music industry in the 80's...a time when they were suffering one of the worst recessions ever, he came out with 'Thriller'...which was also the first release of an album on CD...groundbreaking stuff.
Sure, there's controversy, yes there are legal woes, massive debt, lawsuits, divorce and now the question of his kids and their future...but let's focus, just for today, on all the great things that he accomplished in his far too short a time with us.
Here now is a tribute to one of the greatest musical icons of all time.
A Tribute to Michael Jackson.
Dreaming about 'Stanley'!!!
Pictures leaked on the internet this morning with shots of Sid the Kid literally 'dreaming' about the Stanley cup!
Imagine, you dream your whole life, as a kid growing up and into your adult life, of one day hoisting the cup over your head....and then one day your actually cuddling up next to it in bed!!!!!!
Life is good for the youngest Captain to ever recieve this honour! Sleep well Sid!

A dog is a diabetics best friend???
Came across this story this morning,
Dogs are being trained in Britain to warn diabetics when their blood sugar levels fall to dangerously low levels!!!
Are you kidding me???
I thought it was pretty freakin' amazing when I read that they were sniffing out certain cancer cells, and they've long been put to work in the hunt for illegal drugs and explosives, but now they're warning diabetics of potential hypoglycemic attacks?!
I guess they start to whine and bark and stuff...wow....dog's just got even cooler!
Joke of the Week!!!
THE BIG DOG JOKE OF THE WEEK!!!
Start your week with a chuckle......hopefully.....more than likely a groan.....regardless, here's the first one!
TODAY'S JOKE OF THE WEEK!
A young nun who worked for a local home health care agency was out making her rounds when she ran out of gas. As luck would have it, there was a gas station just one block away. She walked to the station to borrow a can with enough gas to start the car and drive to the station for a fill up. The attendant regretfully told her that the only gas can he owned had just been loaned out, but if she would care to wait he was sure it would be back shortly. Since the nun was on the way to see a patient, she decided not to wait and walked back to her car. After looking through her car for something to carry to the station to fill with gas, she spotted a bedpan she was taking to the patient. Always resourceful, she carried it to the station, filled it with gasoline, and carried it back to her car. As she was pouring the gas into the tank of her car, two men watched her from across the street. One of them turned to the other and said: "I know that it is said that Jesus turned water into wine, but if that car starts, I'll go to church every Sunday for the rest of my life."Sooo much to do at Farm Progress
Farm Progress Show is here....and I'm a fan.
I know what you're thinking...what are you talking about Heather. You don't live on a farm, didn't grow up in a farming family and probably have only been on a combine a handful of times in your life..... or was it a swather. (I'm kidding) Even though I may not be the most farming literate. I have found ways to have fun at the Farm Progress Show.
Food - it's like a sample of what you'll get at the fair...and who doesn' t like fair food?
Mini Donuts....I rest my case.
Keeping with the theme of food - the farmers market. Still new but it's already three times as big as last year. I could spend hours looking around - definitely a stop to make.
Okay so you may be like me and live in the city but if you at least stop at the new inventions area you're probably going to learn something new and it makes for a fun guessing game.
"What do you mean that's a portable watering system for livestock? I stand corrected, but my guess was funnier" (you get the idea)
Where else can you hear seminars on tools and strategies for successful farming to a jewellery designer who's creations have been on the Oscar red carpet. I know, right....I've grabbed your attention.
Annnnnd finally, the concerts - Aaron Pritchett and Adam Gregory....enough said.
Thank-you!!!!!!!!!

Letterman's apology...
Ok, last night, David Letterman apologized for a joke he made last Monday (June 8th) about Sarah Palin's daughter that outraged the Alaska governor and her husband and which Palin loudly and repeatedly protested for several days. This was actually the second time Letterman addressed the issue, after defending himself last Wednesday...if you missed it, basically Letterman had joked about a recent Yankee's game that Palin and her daughter attended...
Dave joked, "during the seventh inning, her daughter got knocked up by Alex Rodriguez."
Although it was Palin's 18-year-old, unwed daughter Bristol, who gave birth in December, that Letterman said he was referring to, her 14-year-old daughter Willow was actually with Palin at the game!
...oops....
I think one of the reasons Dave is apologizing for the second time is because there's going to be a HUGE 'Fire Dave' rally outside the Ed Sullivan theatre tonight where Letterman does his show!
Here's the apology from last night...
Apology #1
Apology #2
Apology #3
So here's the million dollar 'career ending' question... Do you think the Palins will accept Letterman's apology and move on? Do you think they should?

SHANIA SPEAKS
Ever since the end of Shania Twain and Mutt Lang's marriage I have to admit I have been caught up in finding out what happened. It's common knowledge he cheated on her and shortly after that information came out we didn't hear from Shania.
This is now.... on her official fan club site, Shania spoke to her fans about her new music and gave a glimpse into what she's been going through.
Dear Friends,
I am so excited to be writing to you personally again after so long.
First I want to apologize for the delay in releasing new music. Music is the basis of our relationship, after all, and I realize I'm not holding up very well on my end of the relationship! But music has a mind of it's own, and is ruled by a writer's emotions and state of mind, not by a time frame or wishful thinking. I wish like crazy that I had new music by now since I dream of how fun it would be to see you all again out on tour with new songs to sing, but as most of you know, I have been side-tracked slightly over this past year.
The personal issues that took place just over a year ago have been well documented, and there's no need to go into more detail here. Since then, I've been inspired by my pain to write and use writing as a therapy through the suffering. I truly wouldn't wish this on anybody as a means to get inspired, but it's been a productive period with so much emotion trying to find it's way out. However, there is no telling how long it will take me to actually finish these songs and record them so they can get out to you.
As many things as there have been to write about through this difficult time in my life, healing is serious business and has taken a lot of the wind out of my sails, slowing me down at times. As you know, I am a mom and all my energy goes to making sure my little man is healthy and happy in every way. This is a full time job, as any parent understands, but especially difficult when you are battling your own personal crisis at the same time while trying to spare your child of being affected by your own suffering.
One time when I was having a weak moment listening to some sad music and sobbing and slobbering over my computer's keyboard, Eja walked up behind me and asked me why I was crying. He wasn't sad at first-just totally surprised to see his mom crying (he is seven and never saw me cry before), and didn't know what to make of it. During this intense period, I was managing to hide my devastation from Eja and cried only when I was alone; but this one time was just too hard for me to control and I broke down. I was quick on my feet to answer him though and told Eja that music was very powerful and can make people quite emotional. It can make you want to dance, feel angry, happy or sad and that THIS this song was sad and made me cry. He accepted this, hugged me and went back to what he was doing. Phew, that was tough!
The energy it has taken me to deal with my personal life and managing to still be a responsible parent has been challenging, and while I have been putting what energy I have left at the end of each day into my writing, it's been hard to put it all together into song format.
Please be patient and I will do my best to continue working on a finished album!
Each morning I put my son on the school bus, feed our two dogs Sony and Dolly, drink my orange juice and sit down at the computer to write. I spend most of my time working with lyrics right now, sorting thoughts, expressions and concepts. It often comes out in the form of poetry, diary notes or e-mails to friends. My friends are great listeners and are very patient and generous about it. I often go back to my e-mails for song ideas. When I write in letter form, I don't hold back. I just write it as it comes without considering format, topic, manners, etc. Some of my best songwriting ideas are coming this way.
Time has a way of making everything right, and it is my hope that good music will eventually come out of it. I say "good music" since I don't want to just throw anything at you, just for the sake of hurrying up to get it out. I want my new music to be something I'm personally satisfied with and proud to share with you.
I have friends and family around constantly coaxing me to focus on my music. "Your fans miss you. They want new music. It's been too long." They're all dying for something new too, so they are pretty relentless about it! I know you certainly all do deserve new music and tour dates; not only because it's been so long, but also because of the HUGE support you've all given me during this period. The many blogs and e-mails have warmed my heart, strengthened my confidence, given me courage, and have often even made me laugh out loud...in a good way! I know I am not alone and realize through your support that you are all routing for Eja and I, and our well-being. Thank you!
The other day I started writing a few pages about being hungry as a kid. Some of it was painful to think about but it also made me laugh at the funny times. Reflecting on that period of my life, I realize how true it really is to learn to take the good with the bad. To appreciate that you can't have one without the other. The trick is to give the "good" at least as much of your energy as the "bad" and not to get stuck focussing more on the "bad". I decided to start writing about other stages of my life to help take my focus off the current phase I'm going through. When I'm feeling down, I figured changing my focus to write about other periods of my PAST would help pull me out of the sadness and on to new chapters in my life. It works.
I will sign off now but I look forward to my next letter/blog to you. I just wanted to fill you in a bit on what's going on with me and music, as well as extend my thanks for all of the support that you have given me over this last year and for all these years; and to assure you that I'm fine and managing very well, in fact. I'm enjoying my child, friends and family like I haven't in years, and it's great. I've been experiencing and seeing new things every day, living life with a different and more optimistic attitude. I've jumped out of an airplane at 10,000 feet, I'm riding Spanish and Arabian horses, traveling to exotic places, I've been deep sea diving for the first time! I pull the odd all-nighter, read more books, listen to Eja's favourite music with him, LOUD [ironically his favourite band is ACDC] and basically I'm enjoying life.
Till next time, my friends. Be well, and peace and happiness to all of you.
Love,
Shania
The greatest 'fools' are found here!
I love what their doing here! They've decided to share their experiences with us by inviting improv troupes from around the world to perform here at the Globe for three nights!
Last night was hilarious! A fun kick-off to the event.
But their work doesn't stop there...what I admire about Regina's own 'General Fools' is how they promote themselves and their craft...and here's one of the ways their doing it...
It's called the 'improvmonologueproject.com, where they invite improv artists across the country to contribute....it's updated each week........funny!....check out this weeks!
If God had a cell phone!
While golfing, I noticed that one of the guys in my foursome had one of those metal bracelets on...you know the kind?....it looked like one of those metal bracelets that somehow cure joint pain?...but this one had an inscription on it...
I asked him what it was, and he told me is was his favorite passage from the bible...whenever life get's a little challenging, he simply has a glance at it, it's like his 'touch-stone'...
He was also pretty into his new iphone!...texting and playing with a few apps...
So I just put the two together...
Imagine if you will, if God had a cell phone, and texted you the Ten Commandments, it might look something like this:
1. no1 b4 me. srsly.
2. dnt wrshp pix/idols
3. no omg's
4. no wrk on w/end (sat 4 now; sun l8r)
5. pos ok - ur m&d r cool
6. dnt kill ppl
7. :-X only w/ m8
8. dnt steal
9. dnt lie re: bf
10. dnt ogle ur bf's m8. or ox. or dnkey. myob.
.....this is what happens when you give a dj a little time on his hands!!!....;)
Cheers!

All kidding aside, the pork industry is literally 'circling the drain' right now...we are so freakin' close to losing our access to canadian staples like canadian pork, sausages and chops!!!
If the current trend continues, we'll be fryin' up our Sunday morning breakfast with bacon from God knows where, so buy 'Canadian' whenever possible everybody!!!
But never fear, the good Canadian pork producers are not giving up without a fight....hell hath no fury like a tone deaf pork producer scorned!!!
Tourism Saskatchewan's "guerilla" marketing campaign...LOVE IT!!!
It's something we've been saying for a while now...'Come to Saskatchewan, the newest 'HAVE' province!'...and with their funding doubled this year, it's easy to think that the hard working people at Tourism Saskatchewan might be tempted to sit back a bit on their laurels and enjoy the fruits of our prosperity....but OH NO!....not now, and certainly not during Tourism Awareness Week!
Instead, they've branched into 'guerilla' marketing, staging a 'SPONTANEOUS' march in downtown Calgary last month touting our provinces virtues....the whole thing was staged, but filmed and put on youtube to become one of the fastest 'viral' videos this month! Check it out, gotta love it!
What kids think of Beer!
I came across this this morning and it made me laugh out loud!....had to share...especially with the warmer weather already on the way!...
A handful of 7-year-old children were asked what they thought of beer:
- "I think beer must be good. My dad says the more beer he drinks the prettier my mom gets." --Tim
- "Beer makes my dad sleepy and we get to watch what we want on television when he is asleep, so beer is nice." --Melanie
- "My Mom and Dad both like beer. My Mom gets funny when she drinks it and takes her top off at parties, but Dad doesn't think this is very funny." --Grady
- "My Mom and Dad talk funny when they drink beer and the more they drink the more they give kisses to each other, which is a good thing." --Toby
- "My Dad gets funny on beer. He is funny. He also wets his pants sometimes, so he shouldn't have too much." --Sarah
- "My Dad loves beer. The more he drinks, the better he dances. One time he danced right into the pool." --Lilly
- "I don't like beer very much. Every time Dad drinks it, he burns the sausages on the barbecue and they taste disgusting." --Ethan
- "I give Dad's beer to the dog and he goes to sleep." --Shirley

Need help understanding your kid?...
I dunno, I still think 11 is a little young for cellular use, but then again, it's nice to know she's accessable 24/7......at least right now!
But that's not what worries me....what worries me is that, while watching her excitedly text her best friend, I realized that I had NO idea what they were saying to each other!!!
It went something like this...
Emma: "...I got a cell!!!..."
Toni: "...OMG!..."
Emma: "...I know! PIP!..."
Toni: "...SWL!..."
Emma: "...LHO!..."
Toni: "...Uh oh, PSOS..."
Emma: "...RME!..."
Toni: "...CMB..."
Emma: "...ok, LYLC!..."
Toni: "...CUL..."
I stood there totally confused....and a little scared, it was like accidently stumbling across some secret society hand shake!
Thankfully I found a website that spells it all out, so if you're like me and need help understanding your kid just go to ...

I'm Sorry Mom
It's the day after Mother's Day and if you thought last weekend was busy for florists...this will suprise you.
If you call a florist today, chances are they won't be getting to your order for a while. Today (the day after Mother's Day) is quickly becoming the unofficial occasion for giving flowers - MOTHER'S WHOSE KIDS FORGOT FLOWERS DAY.
It's apology bouquets for mom.
The positive in all this - florists say the bouquets are usually a lot bigger than they are on Mother's Day.

In addition to viewing the video, fans can send one of three e-cards to their own moms.

Big Dog 92.7 Kid's Fund Video!
Whether it's building a playground, upgrading a library or simply helping out with medical expenses, our goal is the same, to come to the aid of the kids in our city.
We're very proud to announce our first project is with the YWCA and the Y's Kids room. We're hoping to raise enough money to give this place a complete make-over, and create a fun, warm environment where kids who have experienced violence can seek refuge.
If you want to donate, any denomination is more than welcome, we invite you to call this number: 337-2855.
To get a look at the room now, watch the Big Dog video below.
What to do about the Swine Flu...
Dispelling the myths of Swine Flu:
Swine flu is a common respritory ailment in pigs, but this strain appears to be a subtype never before seen in pigs or humans.
When pigs catch it, they get quite sick, and while it doesn't usually spread to people, this strain does. you can catch it if someone coughs near you, or from touching a surface where droplets have landed, then touching your mouth or eyes, and although people are contagious before showing symptoms, they are most likely to spread the virus when they are coughing.
Dispelling the myth: You CAN'T catch it from eating pork, people working with pigs, however CAN catch it.
SYMPTOMS: Most common are fever, fatigue, lack of appetite and coughing, although some people develop a runny nose, sore throat, vomiting or diarrhea according to the CDC.
IMPORTANT: If you have any of these symptoms, STAY HOME. Avoid spreading your illness to other people...AND DON'T GET ON AN AIRPLANE. Call your doctor and ask about the best possible treatment, don't simply show up at a clinic or hospital that is unprepaired for your arrival.
HOW CAN YOU PROTECT YOURSELF? Wash your hands...the CDC says there isn't conclusive evidence that facemasks work.
Right now, there's no vaccine, against this strain, but they could create one quite quickly.

The right tool for the right job!
I need a rake.
It dawned on me as I looked down my block at all the freshly raked lawns on my street.
I don't have one.
My dilema is simply this...if I buy one, then I have to USE it. I'm not exactly chopping at the bit to get out there and go to town on my yard, but then it occurred to me that the right tool can actually make a guy WANT to do the job.
HAPPY CORNER GAS DAY
It's the official Corner Gas Day in Saskatchewan!! A phenomenon across the prairies will end tonight.
I have been so excited ever since Brad told me he got a part in the final episode. He can't tell me what his role is because of something called a lawsuit and privacy but whatever. I guess I'll wait impatiently.

Paparazzi in Regina??
So I think it's time to give up the dream of being a member of the paparazzi....do people actually dream about that??!!
Anyway, a Hollywood Starlet walks through the Regina Airport going completely unnoticed until pictures popped up on an American tabloid website.
Earth Hour 2009!
This Saturday the entire planet will mark Earth Hour. It all started two years ago in Sydney, Australia. It was a local move meant to get businesses and people to shut down their use of electricity for one hour to help save the planet. It's a symbolic gesture but likely an important one just the same.
What a Night!
Last night, I had the unique pleasure to be the Master of Ceremonies for the 20th annual Saskatchewan Tourism Awards of Excellence Gala at the beautiful Delta Hotel in downtown Regina.
This was a night honouring all those to toil year round playing host to the thousands upon thousands of tourists who take time to enjoy the most beautiful province in the country, the one we call 'home'!
Fashion First
We had Trish Kennedy our fashion expert on the Dog's Breakfast to talk about what's new for spring. Some things I can't wait for and others, well, let's just say I NEVER WANT THEM TO COME BACK.
Here Comes Peter Cottontail with a mike!
I can't explain it, but my kids could not get ENOUGH of this video...all weekend long, they'd play it again and again, a music video of a cute little bunny singing a love ballet to a carrot...maybe it's cause' Easter's around the corner with thoughts of Cadbury Cream Eggs dancing in their heads... I dunno.....but I have to admit, it is kinda cute!
What's your Irish Name?
Need an authentic Irish toast?
It's that time of year again, when everyone discovers a little bit of Irish blood in their lineage...we break out any green clothing we can find and all the green dye from the back of the kitchen cupboard, and we celebrate!
I don't think I have any actual Irish blood in my ancestry, but I do have an Irish Godmother...Mrs. O'Conner...it's said, the day I was baptised, she wished a lepracon on my shoulder, so nimble and quick was he that turning my head to see him was pointless as he jumps out of sight to the other shoulder in a flash!...back and forth he'd go.....oh yes, many a day was spent in my youth whipping my little head back and forth so many times I'd wind up throwing up in the backyard!
Historians couldn't agree whether St. Patrick died on the 8th or the 9th, so they just added the two together, and now every year we celebrate the irish saint on the 17th of March!
So just for fun tonight, when you're out and about celebrating or even just around the dinner table, feel free to use any one of these actual irish toasts to entertain friends and family...honest, they're the real deal!...as real as the green clovers in your lucky charms!

The Recipe for Lasting Love Unveiled!!!
British researchers in white lab coats studied 3,000 married people and discovered the following common traits in happy couples:
- Meeting through friends.
- Marrying after three-and-a-half years of courtship.
- Walking the aisle at age 31 for the groom and age 29 for the bride.
- Keeping the spark alive with three calls, e-mails or texts during each workday.
- Saying the L-word at least once a day.
- Waiting two years and two months before starting a family.
- Taking two romantic meals out each month.
- Doing the deed three times per week.
- Kissing four times per day.
- Spending three nights per week cuddling on the sofa.
- Allowing for two separate nights out with friends per month.
- Taking two weekends away per year.
Had I known even HALF of this 10 years ago, my current status would probably be very different, but knowing this now has readied me for future dating scenarios....you know....should any present themselves! ;).....I would like to make a few amendments however....

Light at the End of the Tunnel!
As of last Friday we are one month away from spring. Now let's get one thing straight, winter still officially has four more weeks to go and unofficially it will be around alot longer than that. However we are not going to be negative about this. No,instead we'll look for the light at the end of the tunnel and if you're paying attention you can already see it.
MIDLIFE!
MIDLIFE
Yesterday, the staff association here at Big Dog brought out the 'January' cake...this is a new tradition here where we bring out a communal cake for each month fellow employee's share a birthday...and my birthday was this past month.....and as I cut myself a small piece, all the while worrying about how many freakin' empty calories were being consumed, Paul O'Neil shouted out my age to everyone in the room, and for the first time in my life, I cringed!.....and it got me thinking about the inevitable......
Kevin, Can I Hug You?
Okay, I played it much cooler than that when I met Kevin Costner backstage before his show at Casino Regina. Even though I wanted to ask for a hug, I decided to play it safe since no one in our group went in for one. :)

Fashion in Politics? Ummmm Yes
President Barrack Obama's Inauguration is now a memory but it will be one of those moments where you'll always remember where you were. It was the most watched event in history. He's a likeable guy - poised, charismatic, and full of charm but Michelle Obama is building her own fan club.

Here I thought I could keep a low profile and let another birthday uneventfully slip by...no harm, no foul, just glide on by in blissful obscurity......

The Post Holiday Blues!
Post Holiday Blues
Are you feeling a bit down today? Some folks call this the post-holiday blues. Although I know of no blues guitarist who has composed a song called the Post Holiday Blues. It does sound like it would be the perfect thing for Howlin' Muddy Blind Lemon Peterson to record. It does happen every year and to many people. Even the most optimistic of us can find a bit of a let down that comes after such a long period of holiday cheer. All the things we had no problem putting off during the holidays are now staring us right in the face...including the most arduous of tasks, getting our finances back in order!!!
