I got a call from Vel today on the All Request Lunch Box. She was telling me about how she was the video winner for the Aaron Pritchett contest! Aaron put a call out to fans to submit videos made to the song "Nothing But Us" that show the meaning of the song to them. Vel submitted a video of her and her daughter spending time together and it won! The prize included a phone call from Aaron himself, a whole bunch of prizes, and a Meet & Greet with him the next time he's in Regina. Vel and her daughter were both in heaven getting the good news.

A few weeks ago, I was talking about how Marti and Emily from the Dixie Chicks were reportedly making an album without Natalie Maines, ironically with Natalie Maines' dad. The other night, I had a chance to meet up with my sister at Chuck E Cheese for my niece's 5th birthday. I had never experienced the power of cheese before, so it was an eye opener in more ways than one. But as a parent, I can understand why it's so popular. It's fun, there's lots for the kids to do and it keeps them from fighting with one another, because they're so focused on playing every game possible.

Aunty Tia also took one of the "rides" with Bailey

If you're one of my Facebook friends or in my Facebook Group, you've likely seen the adventures of my crazy cat Bazil. I'm convinced he wants to join the circus as a Trapeze cat when he grows up. It's not uncommon for him to jump up on the top of a door and teeter over the edge just hanging out. Then he started randomly jumping up on my shoulder out of the blue and just sits there. Sunday, that took a new twist for Bazil the Bizarro.

Is this an Omen or a Sign?

Is this an Omen or a Sign?

January 13, 2010 - 9:09pm.
Tia Daniels

A few weeks ago when driving down a street late night heading home, I came across a rabbit standing in the middle of the road. So I slowed down hoping it would scare off and I could be on my merry little way. This darn rabbit just took it's time hopping along on the street in front of me, all the while i'm getting a little annoyed. Here I am trying to avoid running this thing over and it's messing with me! Finally it scurried off to the side and into a yard and was gone.

Then tonight, same thing. Another rabbit standing on the side of the street looking like it was going to cross the road. So I stop and wait for it ( does that sound stupid?) again not wanting to run a rabbit over. Stupid thing just stands there and looks at me. So i inch forward a little bit thinking it'd scare off. It didn't! So I honk my horn...which on VW's sounds like a whoopee cushion ( I look forward to the day I come across a Moose on the road and blast it with my horn ). Finally the horn set this little rabbit on it's way.

Then I get to thinking, "that's two rabbits within a couple of weeks, is this a sign or something?". So I looked it up and apparently Rabbits mean "fertility and new life, to look for new things in your life within 28 hours, days or weeks".

I'm not sure whether to be happy about this or scared...lol. Darn you wascally wabbit!

It's a sad day, but a move that doesn't surprise me, if you've ever seen the movie "Shut up and Sing". Looks like there's a new Dixie Chicks cd coming out, without Natalie Maines. Being a bluegrass fan though, i'm excited to hear the musicianship that Emily and Marti are so good at!

Oysters and Pig Spleens have something in common!

November 19, 2009 - 9:24am.
Tia Daniels

Monday night I was in Toronto walking down Queen Street with my friend Brianne, talking about Saskatchewan. She's an Ontario girl so she was somewhat amused at my story about a guy from Tompkins named Gus, who used a pig spleen to predict the weather. In fact, I'm pretty sure she thought I was just pulling her leg.

Since then, i've done some research on Gus and learned a little bit myself. Including the fact that apparently pig spleen has something in common with Oysters.

When I was a kid, I used to love getting Wagon Wheels in my halloween bag. They were king! But the good ol' days are gone it seems. The marshmellow inside is now this rubbery oily slime goo. And, can we really call them a "Wheel" when they're seemingly half the size they used to be??? Albeit for twice the amount you used to pay for them!

Wow, I just sounded like my parents. I guess i've finally grown up after all. Happy Halloween!

Take the Old Record Off the Shelf...

October 21, 2009 - 4:58pm.
Tia Daniels

I recently got the news that my dad is soon going to be moving out of the old farmhouse we grew up in back in Alberta. So before we get too deep into winter, my sister and I have to make the trip back home to gather up any belongings we may have in the house. I don't know that I have much there anymore, but I know there's a box in the closet with an autograph book that includes a signature from (laugh all you want) Tiffany, who I met at the West Edmonton Mall once. So I want to grab it.

I also have my collection of records from when I was a kid that would be a shame not to get my hands on as well. There's 4 in particular that were my absolute faves when I was a teenager. Any guesses what they were?

I'm curious to see what you'll come up with...

Every year at Christmas, guaranteed, I'm going to get a bundle of new socks from my sister. And I'm ok with that. I freakishly wear through socks like nobody's business, so my sister pretty much knows that socks is likely one of my "what Tia needs" items. But as i'm folding laundry tonight, frowning on having to say goodbye to one of my favourite pair of beige socks, I couldn't help but want to pay tribute to those soldiers of walking wars.

Yup...it's been a slow news day. But at least I didn't put my cat in a mushroom shaped helium balloon and call CNN. And you thought I was the boring one here at Big Dog 92-7 ha ha!

You may have heard me babbling today about my lovely eruption of two cold sores in one day, one on the top lip, the other on the bottom. A friend told me to put hand sanitizer on them as a remedy, however, more than one person called or emailed and said NO HAND SANITIZER! That'll make them scar apparently.
I've tried other "suggested" ideas on previous cold sores...toothpaste, hair-spray, poly-sporin, and yup, have even done the "let's freeze it with some frozen meat from the freezer" trick.

But back to the hand sanitizer thing - at this rate I should never get the flu right? Just sayin...

Two Steppin' doozy from Shane Yellowbird

October 7, 2009 - 4:35pm.
Tia Daniels

Last year at the CCMA's in Winnipeg, I went to an EMI Music showcase that included Shane Yellowbird performing. He did this cool song with something about bare feet and black tops that I loved from the minute I heard it. Since then, I've been patiently waiting for this song to come out and sure enough today, I came across this brand new video from Shane for "Barefeet on the Blacktop" .

Cool thing about this, snippets of it were shot at the Craven Country Jamboree, so you might even see someone you know! Kinda reminds me of a Garth crossed with Joe Diffie kinda tune!

I was in the States when I heard about Aerosmith having to cancel in Regina because of Steven Tyler's oops off the stage. Was I surprised...hmmmm, no not really. And when you actually see the video, it makes you wonder: at what point do 60 year old rock stars realize they're too old to be acting like they're still 20? I was embarrassed for him! If my mother, who's the same age, acted like that, i'd be hiding UNDER the stage! Granted I'd be close enough to catch her when she fell...but that's beside the point.

It really must be a slow news day when we're debating over the length of our mayor's hair huh? I was in line today buying a pop, when a man standing in front of me mused at the very same thing. I muttered the words "Little Bunny Foo Foo" today and it made me giggle. Easter is such a light-hearted holiday isn't it? It's one of those holidays that reminds me of being a kid. My sister and I would go buy a packet of food colouring and wax candles so we could master our easter egg creations and designs. Then there was the childhood decisions of which part of the chocolate Easter Bunny to eat first. I always went for the tips of the ears. They were always so vunerable.

I'm not going to sugarcoat it. I have very irregular sleep patterns. Sometimes I battle stretches of insomnia due to external factors, and this winter, haven't slept well at all because it's been so cold! But this week has just been one of those stretches where the thing that's keeping me awake at night, is my dreams!

Tia Daniels

Hi everyone, my name is Tia and I'm a pumpkin-pie-aholic.

It's true. I have been from a very young age. There's no denying it anymore. And it's getting harder and harder to resist the temptation. Every time I walk into the Safeway in the Cathedral area, the first display that greets me at the door is pies. I wince, lower my head, and carry on past them, but find myself circling back around eventually.

Remember being back in school and using reinforcements to patch together all the ripped papers coming out of your binders off the rings, or just sticking them on your face and being the class clown? I was in the studio the other day playing with reinforcements and it reminded me how fun back to school supplies time was! There was reinforcements, rulers, compass sets, binders, loose-leaf, erasers, your HP #2 pencils, highlighters, and who could forget pencil crayons?! In fact, without a word of a lie, I have a pack of my pencil crayons from high school still.

When I was 19, I worked at a pet store while I was going to college. A family had brought in an abandoned litter of kittens whose mother had been run over. The smallest of the litter was this little white fur-ball with black patches that I fell in love with and took home to become my little Cassie, who as my sister would tell you, was definitely my cat, and only my cat. Yes, Cassie was a bit of a diva you could say. But we literally grew up together.

On Saturday I was shopping down at Cornwall and walking back to my car parked up on Scarth street. As I was getting closer, I saw a lost soul of a young lady who seemed to be a victim of hard times. She was a mess, unhealthy looking, in a daze. I got into my car, was looking in my ashtray, and then next thing I know, she's standing there knocking on my window. She scared the HECK outta me, and I reacted that way, jumping in my seat and I can only imagine the look on my face. But my fearful reaction caught her off guard and she quickly turned away and left.

Croc Say it Ain't So

May 9, 2008 - 11:30am.
Tia Daniels
The ever changing strength of trends and fads is resulting in the changing of guard, and it truly saddens me. Stock shares recently tumbled for Crocs, they closed down the Crocs plant in Quebec, and shoe stores are saying the end is near for the one time popular footware. I bought my Croc flip flops back in the summer of 2004. Since then, they've travelled with me for walks on the beach as far away as both Corpus Christie and South Padre Island. I've trusted them like I would a super-hero, even falling down a hill one time thinking they were good for hiking. Turns out they're not, but I had that much confidence in them. Last year after having surgery on my foot, they were the first footware I felt good wearing after my boot cast came off. And recently having just moved into a home where I have laminate flooring, I love wearing them around the house like slippers. Some people despise Crocs! There's even Facebook groups devoted to people who are Anti-Croc-ers. And that's ok. To each their own. I guess if there's an upside to the story it might be... Now's a really good time to get Crocs on sale! Lol.

How Sweet It Is

Well here we are at another Earth Day. This year I have a new perspective on it thanks to a friend of mine from Toronto. She was here in Regina in September for the CCMA's. She had never been to Regina before, or Saskatchewan, or the prairies even.
